about

There are trails of sunlight in Eva Lucidity's music, wisps of dawn breaking through the night sky. And the five songs on Radiation chime in wonder with the slack-jawed gaze of something spectacular spotted on the horizon. Eva Lucidity has crafted a specialness that disguises emotional complexity in sonic simplicity. It's a sound like unguarded time — extended motifs serve as dream guides revealing beams headed skyward.

The California-based Eva Lucidity approaches electronic music production with a beginner's mind, saying, "I find making electronic music with simple software a little fraudulent. But, hey — if anything creates music, I believe it's worth going for." Eva initially arrived via the bass guitar; her talents applied to the west coast band The Catholic Comb. On stage, an anti-charismatic demeanor defiantly leads to recognition as 'most charismatic.' Perhaps this contradictory ethos finds its roots in The Cure, a starting point for exploring the sounds of Lucidity. One can hear the magnet draw of Mr. Smith's familiar project in Radiation, especially in its tumultuous Faith era. Moods are rampant.

Now, press play. The listener immediately falls down tonal pathways with the calm, kick-drum sheen of "However." Droned pads stroke with warmth, and wind chime melodies shimmer with insistence. Next, the title track deftly describes that in-between feeling, the moment when Dali awakens after dropping a ball from his supine grasp. "Kahlua and Klonopin" reaches into the ominous and pulls out drafts of tension that brightly glow under observation. "Retraction Reaction" follows, and it's a cautionary transmission received by Ye Wenjie's stargazing radio monitor. These are alien secrets. Radiation closes with "Red Phosphorus," an aural ray of hope, perseverance, and veracity that bookends nicely with the preceding "However." The day breaks, waves sparkle into coherence, and the sunlight pours over us.
